Yes it’s true. You’ll be able to see this incredible triple bill of indie goodness for free – on the quad outside at Ithaca College on Friday May 7th! – unless you’d rather be Drakin’ it up on the slope that is…  This might be the powerhouse show of the year so be there!

MORE ON THE BANDS:

YEASAYER

The music of Brooklyn’s Yeasayer is an eclectic, genre-bending journey into pop, rock, Middle Eastern and African musics, folk, and dub. Vocalist/keyboardist Chris Keating and vocalist/guitarist Anand Wilder were both raised in Baltimore, where they honed their vocal skills in a barbershop quartet and played in a high-school band, Sic Transit, before leaving town to attend different colleges. Years later, the two relocated to New York and began shaping the project that would soon become Yeasayer. Wilder’s cousin, Ira Wolf Tuton, joined as the group’s bassist, and drummer Luke Fasano was the last member to climb aboard in May 2006. The band set to work on recording its debut album, All Hour Cymbals, which was unveiled to much critical acclaim (not to mention a healthy blogosphere buzz) in October 2007. International tour dates and festival appearances followed, during which the band honed its blend of live instrumentation and prerecorded samples. When it came time to record a second album, Yeasayer traveled to Woodstock, NY, and rented out the country home of percussionist Jerry Marotta. The resulting record, Odd Blood, appeared in early 2010 and showcased a different side of the band, with synthetic sounds and dance-inspired production playing a much larger role.

MAN MAN

Based in Philadelphia, PA, Man Man is an experimental indie band that incorporates Eastern European and circus-esque styles in their music, creating a unique sound. The band consists of Honus Honus (lead vocals, piano, percussion), Pow Pow (drums, auxiliary percussion), Critter Crat (aka Cougar) (guitar, trumpet, bass, marimba, vocals), Organ Freeman (synth, organ, accordion, vocals), and Chang Wang (alto sax, bari sax, vibraphone, melodica, flute, percussion, vocals).

Their style has been compared to a mixture of Tom WaitsFrank Zappa, and Captain Beefheart. Man Man is known for their distinctive live shows where the members of the band dress in white tennis outfits and don war paint. During their sets the band does not take breaks between songs in order to keep a constant energy level.

Man Man has released two LPs with Ace Fu Records: The Man In The Blue Turban With A Face(2004) and Six Demon Bag (2006). In November 2007 they signed with Anti- to release RabbitHabits (2008). Their second Anti- release is slated for the spring of 2010.

ANTLERS

The Antlers are an indie rock band currently based in Brooklyn, New York, fronted by Peter Silberman. Initially, The Antlers was a solo project created by vocalist and guitarist Peter Silberman immediately after he had moved to Brooklyn, New York, in 2007 where he had isolated himself from family and friends. Silberman wrote the first album, “In the Attic of the Universe” by himself and under his own name. Afterwards, he recruited Lerner and Cicci, becoming a collaborative group. The band recorded two EPs: “Cold War” and “New York Hospitals”. Silberman’s collection of songs (which was mentioned as an “elegy for his planned disappearance”) would later become a full-length album titled “Hospice” and would feature an epic storyline, telling the story of a man losing a loved one to cancer and having to witness her death first-hand. The album was independently released by the band in March of 2009, selling an apparently overwhelming number of copies, later selling all of their stock and had to produce more. The band later commented that they had “bit off more than they could chew”. The album received critical praise for both its narrative and musicianship and has since been listed on several “Album of the Year” lists. The band later signed with New York-based French Kiss Records. The label released a remastered “Hospice” on August 18, 2009.
