Event Gallery at Bethel Woods Teams with Dan Smalls Presents

Upstate Promoter with Local Roots to Book 440-Seat Room

BETHEL, NY (January 23, 2012) – Bethel Woods Center for the Arts announces a partnership with talent buyer Dan Smalls of the Ithaca based concert promotion company Dan Smalls Presents to book shows of the highest quality in the 440-seat Event Gallery. Part of the Bethel Woods campus, the intimate Event Gallery opened in 2008 and has presented over 30 concerts and dozens of community and educational events to the acclaim of artists and fans for its beauty, views of the Woodstock site and impeccable sound quality.

Dan Smalls Presents has reinvigorated the Ithaca and Central NY music scene with varied programming. Based from the State Theatre in Ithaca, Smalls has consistently presented some of the finest touring talent for a venue its size and the 1611-seat theatre has emerged as a hotspot for music in upstate and central NY. Recent expansion into other NY markets has been successful with shows booked in Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Cooperstown, Rochester as well as Northeast PA.

No one can say Smalls doesn’t know his market. He’s a local boy, born and raised in Monticello, NY, just minutes away from the venue. Smalls also worked for the Gerry Foundation when it produced events on the site of the original Woodstock festival in the late 1990′s.

Smalls is a graduate of Monticello High School that has succeeded against the tough economic odds of the concert business. “Dan’s reputation, experience and feel for the marketplace will allow him to expand on what we’ve done while creating new opportunities,” said Matt McNeil, Senior Director or Programming and Marketing.

The live music fan will win. “Bethel, NY is a great, historic location that will route well with Ithaca. The increased opportunities will be mutually beneficial. I look forward to being part of the Bethel Woods family,” Smalls said.

Now in its seventh season, programming innovative and captivating performances is an integral part of the mission for the Center. Suzanne Vega, Country Joe McDonald, Leo Kottke and a new classical music series have spring Event Gallery dates on-sale now and more programming will be announced.

Concerts at the 15,000-seat Pavilion Stage at Bethel Woods are produced in association with Live Nation. The Center, which opened in 2006, is the recipient of two Pollstar “Best Venue” nominations and ranked #15 on the Top 100 Worldwide Outdoor Amphitheater ticket sales chart in 2011.

As you know our goal is to reinvent the entire concert experience here in Ithaca.  We don’t play by the rules of the big-time industry.  We want to be partners with the acts we present.  We respect the acts we present.  And we respect you the folks who support these acts and in turn our business.  The experience is tantamount.  So to that end we ask that you take this survey.  Tell us how you feel, how to reach you and yes, who you’d like to see.

Our year end survey is here: http://kwiksurveys.com/?u=DSP2011

We encourage you to fan us up at Facebook and follow us on twitter and tell your friends to do so as well.  I know you hear that everywhere today, but here there are rewards.  Free tickets, swag, and most importantly… lower ticket prices.  That’s right.  When you know early and spread the word for us, we advertise less, and ticket prices stay low.  In fact, in the new year we are continuing our tradition of “tickets are cheaper the day they go on sale (and usually the first week) than any other day.”  And prices increase as the date approaches.  Why?  Some of you have asked why we don’t discount at the end near a show – or use Groupon.  Well simply, once you get accustomed to that practice, you’ll always wait.  And in turn we’ll devalue the experience.  Not gonna happen.

I live by a few small rules:

1. Don’t buy the show if you don’t think you can sell it.

and more importantly…

2. Don’t give it away when I’m wrong.

I hope this gives you insight into the world of DSP.  And we value your continued support.  Heres to some great shows in 2012!  2011 was beyond belief.  Let’s see what we can do this year!

Brewery Ommegang, the Oneonta Theater and Dan Smalls Presents are proud to announce that they are combining efforts on September 27th.

The shows at the theater and brewery will be merged into an amazing night of music under the stars at the beautiful Brewery Ommegang located at 656 County Route 35 in Cooperstown, the next town over from Oneonta.  This new show will feature headliners, The Avett Brothers and guests Brandi Carlile and Nicole Atkins in a stellar triple bill.

In a market this small, the parties decided that one big show would be the best way to serve the fans of each band and those who had to choose between one show or the other on this night.  All previously sold tickets for each show will be honored – and to be extra clear – all Oneonta Theater tickets for Brandi Carlile will be honored at the gates of the brewery, which open at 5 PM on September 27th.

Tickets will remain on sale for $40 advance and $50 at the gate for the concert which is selling very well so far.  Buy early and save.

Camping can be added for $10 per person for the night.
